Green Tree Collard
When growing a Green Tree Collard it would be hard to be out of nutrient dense food! This plant usually grows 5-8 feet tall. Mine has reached over 12 feet! It can be trimmed shorter for easier harvest of course. This is a perennial. This green variety tolerates heat better than the Purple Tree Collard. Both varieties grow well in zone 10 with mild winter. This green variety will perform better for places with high 90s to 100+F summers.
Grow it in full sun or part shade in well-drained soil. Keep soil moist. Once established it will just keep growing. Can be grown in ground or container.
Leaves, flowers and tender stems are edible raw or cooked. Stems can be fibrous so I prefer to juice them. Leaves are delicious cooked, in stir fry, omelette, dehydrated or oven roasted chips, soups, smoothies, pickled or fermented (think sauerkraut). Leaves can use as wraps!
