Yellow Passion Fruit from Peru (Passiflora edulis) – vigorous tropical vine with incredibly fragrant, tart-sweet fruit!

This Peruvian Yellow Passion Fruit, also known as Maracuyá, produces beautiful yellow fruits filled with intensely aromatic, tart pulp with a touch of sweetness. The fragrance is incredible! In Peru, maracuyá is widely used to make beverages, desserts, cakes, ice cream, candies, sauces and more.

Passion fruit also has an interesting connection to Peru's culinary history. Before limes became common in Peru, ancient cultures are believed to have used tumbo, a native relative of passion fruit, along with other local ingredients in early preparations that preceded modern ceviche.

This is a hardy, vigorous and very productive vine once established. A single plant can grow into a large vine capable of covering a wall, fence, pergola or trellis. Passion fruit flowers and fruits on new growth, so established vines can be cut back heavily in late fall or winter to control their size and encourage fresh new growth the following season.

Growing Instructions:

Can grow into a very large vine if left unpruned.
Grows well in a large container or in ground.

Can be pruned back heavily during the cooler season to control size and encourage fresh growth.
Keep soil evenly moist while newly transplanted and establishing.
Fairly drought tolerant once established, but regular watering will encourage better growth and fruit production.
Grows well without heavy fertilizing, but can benefit from occasional fertilizer during active growth and fruiting.
Grown from seed.
Tropical and frost sensitive. Protect from frost and freezing temperatures.
In colder climates, grow in a container and overwinter in a bright protected space indoors.
