Hairy Balls (Milkweed)

Product Description:
This Milkweed is a true show‑stopper — tall, graceful, and a beacon for pollinators. Monarch butterflies are especially drawn to it: they lay their eggs on the leaves, and Monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on this plant. As they munch, the caterpillars absorb the plant’s milky sap, which contains natural toxins that make them — and later, the butterflies — unappealing to predators.

The blooms are not just beautiful; they also attract a wide variety of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. And as the season progresses, the plant develops unique balloon-like seed pods covered in soft spikes — a striking and whimsical feature that adds even more visual interest to your garden.

At the end of the season, cut the plant back to 6–12 inches to encourage fresh growth. You can lay the cuttings beside the plant for a day or two to give beneficial insects a chance to relocate before composting.
