SALE! 2 Ashitaba AKA "Tomorrow Leaf" Plants
$38.00
This listing comes with 2 healthy fully rooted Ashitaba plants that are ready to be transplanted once they arrive!
All plants from Gardens of Wendiland are grown in fully organic soil. I do not use any chemicals or pesticide on my plants. The Ashitaba you will receive are much like the one in the last photo -- is about 5-7 inches tall. They will be shipped in pots to ensure they will get to you healthy and safe.
Although research suggested Ashitaba is a biennial plant, but in my years of growing this, I found that this plant grows about 2-3 years before flowering. Growing in part shade can extend their lifespan. The structure of this plant grows similar to a celery — the stem is harvest each time for consumption just as you would with celery. If you are looking to add this medicinal herb in your daily diet, I recommend to start with 2 plants at least, and 6-10 plants would be enough to supply a small family. The stems and leaves on the plant will get more thick, long, and large as the plant keeps maturing. By then you can harvest just 1-2 stems off each plant, and that should be plenty for the family!
♥Why You Should Grow Ashitaba♥
Ashitaba, AKA "Tomorrow's leaf" offers rich medicinal properties. It is potent in anti-aging properties that helps maintain smooth, young skin. It is high in vitamin B-12, vitamin C, calcium, iron. Ashitaba helps detoxify the liver and kidneys, strengthen cartilages, bones (osteoporosis) and tendons, purifying blood, improving the immune system, treat hypertension, reducing the risk of cancer and the risk of brain disorders and heart problems.
Many mistaken this Ashitaba with others in the Angelica family. The true Ashitaba (scientific name: Angelica keiskei koidzumi) as you can see in the photo -- the potent/medicinal variety has the yellow sap called Chalcone in the stem when it is more mature. I have cut a larger stem to show you in the photo. The base of a fully mature Ashitaba can grow to be 2 feet tall!
♥How to Use♥
The entire plant is edible. The yellow sap is most potent and the leaves can be made or boiled as tea. I would describe the taste of stem as a gin and tonic with a celery stick! Stem and leaves can be finely chopped to garnish your meals. Ashitaba can be added in smoothies, juices, and cooked in soups. For maximum benefits, I recommend consuming it raw unless there is abundance so you can experiment cooking.
♥How to Grow♥
Ashitaba grows best at 75-85F. It prefers the soil to be a little moist. In Southern California I grow them in the shade and only gets morning sun. Depends on where you live, some people grow them in greenhouses or with a plastic bag covering over the plant to keep it warmer when it's cold. Ashitaba can tolerate up to 20F, but it will go dormant in the winter.
